Explore is the AI layer on top of your Good Tape transcripts. It connects every recording to the rest of your archive, so you can find topics, related passages and answers, each with its source tape and timestamp.

Here are the questions we hear most often about Explore: what it does, where its answers come from, how it handles your data, and how it differs from the Good Tape MCP.

About Explore

What is Good Tape Explore?

Explore is an AI layer that sits on top of your Good Tape transcripts. It reads a tape against the rest of your archive, a project or a single tape, and surfaces topics, related passages and answers. Every result comes with the source tape and timestamp, so you can verify where it came from.

What does Explore do that transcription alone doesn’t?

It connects tapes to each other. While you read a transcript, Explore can show a contradiction from three months ago, an expert saying the same thing, or a colleague putting it differently, so you don’t have to remember to look for it.

Which plans include Explore, and what does it cost?

Nothing while Explore is new. It is included for free in every plan, the free trial as well as Pro and Business, with base usage included. After the launch, Explore is €10 a month, or €8 a month billed yearly. If you need it for a whole organization, talk to us.

Does Explore work on the files I already have in Good Tape?

Yes. Switching Explore on indexes everything already in your account, at no extra usage cost, so nothing needs to be uploaded again.

Does Explore work across multiple languages in my archive?

Yes, Explore works across the languages in your archive. If you work with your archive through the chat, choose GLM as the model for the best results across languages.

How does Explore search?

Explore uses semantic search, which is based on embeddings. Instead of matching exact words, it matches what your question means with passages that mean something similar, whether you or your AI agent is doing the searching.

How is Explore different from the Good Tape MCP?

Explore works inside Good Tape. It reads your archive and answers with sources, and its chat runs on an EU-hosted model within Good Tape.

The MCP is a read-only connection that lets your own AI tool (Claude, ChatGPT, Mistral, Perplexity) search your transcripts from inside that tool. Once you connect the MCP, that provider’s privacy and training terms apply to what it reads.

The two are separate, and you can use either or both: work with your archive inside Good Tape’s security setup, or from the outside tools that are already part of your daily workflow.

Sources and accuracy

Where do Explore’s sources come from? Are they my own, or external?

Only your own. Explore reads the context you choose (your whole archive, a project or a single tape) and draws only on what you put there.

Every answer and insight arrives with the source file and the transcript it came from, so you can open it and check before you use it. AI tools can still misread or summarize inaccurately, so verify anything critical against the original recording.

Can Explore attribute a quote to the wrong speaker?

It can, in transcripts where speaker detection was uncertain or two speakers sound alike. Good Tape labels speakers automatically and you can rename them, so check direct attributions against the tape.

Topics and insights

How does Explore come up with topics?

Explore reads the transcripts in your chosen context (archive, project or tape) and suggests the topics that keep coming back. Each topic opens onto the strongest passages behind it, with their source and timestamp.

Is a topic more like a tag?

A topic is a lens over your transcripts, not a folder. The transcripts stay where they are, and Explore shows you the passages that relate to the topic.

Can a quote sit under more than one topic?

Yes. A quote can appear under several topics, depending on the topics and on the quote itself.

Can I add my own topics?

Yes. Explore takes the topics you add yourself alongside the ones it suggests, and opens the strongest passages behind each. Typing a subject such as “mathematics” gathers what your transcripts say about it. You can also pin the topics that matter, and refresh the suggested ones.

Can I load my own topics in advance?

Yes. You can add your own topics before or after Explore suggests any.

Can I change the color of topics?

Not at the moment.

Can I keep a timestamp on my notes?

Insights in Explore carry the source and timestamp of the passage they come from, and notes you write in Good Tape show a date.

Your data and security

Is all my data kept within Good Tape?

Your data stays in the EU. Good Tape processes and stores your recordings and transcripts only on servers inside the EU, and Explore adds no new sub-processors. The sub-processors Good Tape uses are listed on our sub-processors page, and every one of them is EU-based.

Does Good Tape train models on my data?

No. Your recordings, transcripts and account content are never used to train any model, Good Tape’s or anyone else’s. Good Tape uses your data for one thing: delivering your own transcription and Explore results. Sub-processors don’t train on it either. Explore’s chat runs on an EU-hosted model.

How is my data protected?

Files and transcripts are encrypted in transit with TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256. Good Tape holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification (valid 30 January 2026 to 29 January 2029) and is GDPR compliant. Signed Data Processing Agreements are available to every customer. More on security.

What happens when I delete a file?

It is removed from all Good Tape systems within 12 hours.

Teams and projects

Can we collaborate on projects in Explore?

Yes. Projects are groups of transcripts, and you can share a project with your team members. In the project sharing dialog you invite a colleague by email and choose what they can do, for example view and add tapes. Explore can then run inside that project, so the search stays within the work that belongs together.

Can our administrator or team owner read our transcripts?

No. Not even a team owner can read the contents of a transcript until it is shared. Owners can invite colleagues and remove their access again.

What happens to someone’s transcripts when they leave the team?

Every user can always delete their own files and projects. Beyond that, Good Tape works with each customer to set up the right mechanism for when someone leaves, because retention rules differ. Raise it with our sales team.

The Good Tape MCP

Where do I set up the MCP?

The MCP is a connection your AI tool uses to reach your Good Tape archive. You add Good Tape as a custom connector in the AI tool’s own settings, using the server address https://app.goodtape.io/mcp, then log in with your Good Tape account and approve access. Step-by-step guides exist for Claude, ChatGPT, Mistral and Perplexity.

What can the AI tool do once it is connected?

Five things: list your transcriptions, search across your archive, pull a full transcript, pull a summary, and pull notes. It is read-only and can’t edit or delete anything. It sees only your own transcripts, summaries and notes, never a teammate’s.

What data does the AI tool receive?

Search returns only the matching excerpts. When the tool asks for a specific transcript, it receives the full text with speaker labels and timestamps. Once your transcripts reach an external AI tool, that provider’s own privacy, data-residency and training terms apply, so check them for the plan you use.
