Over 140 journalists were killed since 2025.
Forever silenced, but not forgotten.
The reality behind the names
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), over 140 journalists and media workers have been killed in the line of duty since 2025. Each name represents a life cut short and a voice forever silenced.
Beyond those lost, many more truth-tellers are currently jailed, missing, or living under the constant threat of physical, digital, or legal violence. This is unacceptable. Journalists must be protected. For more information on each journalist killed including when, where, how and the organization they represented click here.
Why are they killing journalists?
Journalists are the eyes and ears of the world, serving as the essential conveyors of truth. They face immense personal risk to ensure the public remains informed, yet when a voice is silenced, we all lose a vital perspective on global conflict and political reality. At Good Tape, we are evolving from a transcription utility into a champion for these truth-tellers. We believe in standing up for those who have our backs by protecting their fundamental rights:
Physical Safety: No reporter should become a statistic; they must be able to work in the world’s most dangerous places with security and protection. This is an absolute non-negotiable.
Mental Health: Reporting on tragedy takes a massive toll; journalists need access to psychological support to manage trauma and the emotional weight of their work.
Professional Integrity: We must defend the right to report freely, protecting journalists from the pressures of physical violence, digital threats, and especially legal intimidation and lawfare.
Why did we decided to make this campaign?
Over the past few years, Good Tape has grown into a global platform used by millions of the world’s truth-tellers. Our ads are seen by tens of millions of people. With this scale comes a moral obligation.
With this campaign we mark a permanent shift in our brand. We are moving beyond being “just a transcription tool” for newsrooms to becoming a champion for the physical safety, mental health, and professional integrity of journalists everywhere. We are committed to being the platform that has the back of the people who find the truth.
We all need to protect journalists everywhere they are being targeted, because they are the truth tellers

Dedicated to supporting local media in countries affected by armed conflict and political transition. IMS is driven by the belief that even in the world’s most dangerous places, the truth must be told. By providing resources and professional support to journalists on the ground, IMS helps ensure that local communities and the international public have access to reliable information during times of crisis

Freelance journalists are often the most vulnerable members of the media, frequently working without the institutional safety nets of major newsrooms. The Rory Peck Trust provides these independent truth-tellers with the practical and financial support they need to stay safe. Their services include life-saving safety training, insurance, and emergency grants for journalists facing immediate threats or hardship while in the field.

Reporting on tragedy and violence takes a massive psychological toll on those behind the camera and the notebook. The Global Center for Journalism and Trauma focuses on the critical intersection of journalism and mental health. They provide essential resources to help reporters manage PTSD and the long-term emotional weight of their work, ensuring that those who document the world’s most difficult stories are not left to process the trauma alone.

Help center (FAQ)
Where did you get all of the names from?
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), has allowed us to cite them and to use their data for the use of this video. They are a highly respected organization and their data is widely used by organizations, newsrooms and NGOs across the world.
Why did Good Tape make a 8.5 min ad?
We know its unconventional, but it’s a statement that we needed to make. We understand that it’s a heavy piece of content to watch, most will only watch a few minutes and then skip. That in itself is a statement. There are so many names, that you literally can’t sit through hearing them all.
What does Good Tape hope to achieve from “The names” campaign?
We want this issue to be top of mind, and we want to bring attention to the cause. Journalists are being targeted, they are being killed, tortured and imprisoned. Please support the organizations above with a donation or visit their sites to learn more.
Why are there only 140 names mentioned in the video?
Because of ongoing global conflicts every week there are additional names that get added to The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) database. We tried our best to include everyone up to the final deadline of this campaign. We send our thoughts and our deepest condolences to all of the journalists killed.
What can I do to help?
Make noise. Tell someone. Share this on social media. We need more people to speak about this. You can also visit and donate to the organizations we mentioned above. Any amount helps.
