Supporting the pursuit of truth: One story at a time

At Good Tape, we believe journalism isn’t just a profession. It’s an act of courage. A commitment. A calling to uncover the stories that shape our world, and to give a voice to people who would otherwise go unheard.

It’s why we created the Good Tape grant where we provide support up to 500€ to journalists working on good stories. The grant is awarded to journalists and storytellers in developing countries who are working on meaningful stories but need some extra support to bring them to life.

Whether you’re a journalist, blogger, vlogger, videographer, photographer, or anyone documenting the world around you: this grant is for you. Because your story matters and the world deserves to hear it.

Journalists dedicate themselves to the pursuit of truth and bringing stories to light. We want to help support those who need it most

Who can apply

We welcome applications from anyone working on a story that matters:

You don’t need a full-time job in journalism. In fact, this grant is meant for people who don’t have stable newsroom resources behind them. If you’re working on something important to you or your community then you’re eligible.

Just click the form, tell us what you’re working on, and send the story when it’s done.

Why we’re doing this

From the script of our 45-second film, “The Pursuit of Truth”:

The pursuit of truth. It’s a calling that has driven countless souls. To uncover the stories that shape our world. To comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.

Journalists everywhere risk their time, their safety, and sometimes their lives, all to hold the powerful to account and keep the public informed. Their dedication is a “testament to the power of the pen”.

As Henry Anatole Grunwald wrote:

“Journalism can never be silent: that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumph, and the signs of horror are still in the air.”

We want to help more of those voices and to support journalism across the globe.

How recipients are chosen

We’ve assembled a panel of respected editors and journalists from different newsrooms. They’ll review submissions and select who should receive grants.

We trust their experience.

We trust your voice.

And we want to help bring both to the world.

Your work is important. And the future can’t wait.

If you have a story that deserves to be told, we want to help you tell it.

Calling all journalists: We need your help.

We’re looking for experienced journalists and editors who want to give back to the community. Not with money, but with 1–2 hours of your time (per year)

As a judge for the Good Tape grant, you’ll help choose which stories get supported. Your perspective matters. Your experience matters. And your voice helps ensure that the selection process stays fair, independent, and rooted in journalistic integrity.

We intentionally outsource the decision-making to respected professionals so that Good Tape never influences the content of the stories. The grant exists to support journalism, not shape it, and keeping that distance is important to us.
